Riverside, Ca- On July 8, 2005, at 1:15am an
18-year-old male driving a 1993 Toyota Tercel was traveling west on University
Avenue while a 48-year-old male was jogging northbound across University Avenue
at Douglas. The vehicle swerved to the south prior to reaching the intersection,
but was not able to avoid collision with the pedestrian.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured. His 17-year-old passenger sustained
facial cuts and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where he was treated
by Emergency room staff and later released.
The pedestrian suffered major traumatic injuries and was pronounced deceased at
the scene.
All of the involved parties were Riverside residents. Members of the Riverside
Police Department’s (M.A.I.T.) Major Accident Investigation Team responded and
the cause of the collision is under investigation. Anyone with further
