POLICE OFFICER TRAINEE Those candidates not meeting the minimum qualifications for Lateral / Entry Police Officer may be hired as Police Officer Trainee until successful completion of a California Basic P.O.S.T. Police Academy.SALARY: $4558 per month POLICE OFFICER ENTRY Must have within the last three years either completed a California Basic P.O.S.T. Academy or have been employed as a full-time sworn peace officer with a State of California law enforcement agency. Those candidates currently enrolled in a California Basic P.O.S.T,. Academy may be accepted conditionally pending successful completion.SALARY: $5,242

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 21 years of age, no maximum.
High
school graduation or equivalent.
Must
have completed a California Basic P.O.S.T.
Academy and be currently employed as a Police Officer, Deputy
Sheriff, or related Law Enforcement Officer with a law enforcement
agency in the State of California.
Attach certificate(s) if applicable.
Must
possess a valid Class C California driver's license at the time of
employment.
Must
be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is
eligible for, and has applied for, citizenship.
P.O.S.T.
STANDARDS REQUIREMENTS:
Any
visual defect must correct to 20/20 in both eyes.
If soft contacts have been worn successfully for 3 months any
defect is acceptable if corrected to 20/20.
Must have passing score on color blindness test and depth
perception.
Weight
must be in proportion to height as determined by a physician.
EXAMINATION
Applications will be screened and qualified/successful candidates may be invited to compete in a written examination.
The candidate must qualify in each of the following areas:
Written Examination
Oral Interview
Physical Abilities Exam
Background Investigation
Polygraph Examination
Psychological Evaluation
Medical Examination
Command Oral
Additional phases of selection include successfully passing a medical evaluation including substance testing, a background investigation, and a psychological evaluation.

City pays approximately $472 to $602 per month of the employee’s

Incentive pay
7.5% intermediate POST certificate
12.5% advanced POST certificate
Motor-Officer pay, 3% of base
salary
Bilingual pay, 3% of base
salary
Metro Officers, 3% of base salary for full-time members; Collateral Team members (aka Blue Team and White Team), sniper team members, and hostage negotiations team members will receive premium pay of 1.5% of base salary.
Shift
Differential:
$384 per month - Graveyard Shift
$288 per month - Swing Shift
