Graffiti Education Program

City programs provide the community with resources and education to aid in the eradication of graffiti within our community.

Business Outreach

Business outreach consists of sharing strategies with local businesses to mitigate or eliminate graffiti vandalism on their property. The Graffiti Education Coordinator visits a minimum of three businesses per week focusing on businesses with a high propensity of graffiti vandalism on their premises. The Graffiti Education Coordinator provides businesses with proven strategies to combat recurring graffiti including lighting, limiting access, using plant/landscaping to guard walls and buildings, surveillance, and quick graffiti removal. Since implementing the strategy of bringing together as many of our graffiti programs (school education, business outreach, and paint-outs) as possible and focusing them within a weekly revolving ward-by-ward basis, the Graffiti Education Coordinator provides business outreach to local businesses. Follow-up calls are made to each business by administrative personnel.

School Outreach and Education

Look for our School Outreach and Education Program to come to your local school. Working with RUSD and AUSD, we have developed a Graffiti Education Presentation and education materials that are targeted to young adults between the ages of 11 to 14 years.

In addition to the presentation we provide students with give-away items that further support the theme of our message. All students will receive one of the following give-away items when they attend our presentation:

• Free music downloads cards
• Take Back the Wall
  • Wrist bands
  • Zipper pulls
  • Tech-decks
  • T-shirts

Ultimately the City of Riverside would like the message to be presented throughout all grade levels. The intent is to inspire a sense of community pride in the students at the earliest possible age and ultimately to lessen the chance of them being influenced to participate in vandalism and criminal behavior such as graffiti.

Public Education Program (PEP) Meeting

The second Wednesday of every month, the public is invited to join City, County, School Districts, Keep Riverside Clean & Beautiful, and other community members to share information and strategies to reduce graffiti. The meetings are held at the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, 3985 University Avenue in Riverside.

The intention of the PEP is to partner with local school districts, businesses, community groups and individuals to promote Riverside as the cleanest and most graffiti-free city in the United States.
